| How to input
Chinese characters? |
- Open Microsoft Word
- On the top right corner under "EN", go down to "Chinese
Simplified", click it.
- At the bottom-left corner, you can see boxes showing 中 meaning
Chinese; 拼 Pinyin meaning "Chinese phonetic symbols".
(Click the first item on the same floating bar 中 you will make
the program switch between the English and Chinese input
methods.
- Instruction of inputting Chinese characters. At this point,
students are able to enter Chinese characters in a
Microsoft Word document. The instructor now demonstrates how to
enter Chinese characters using the Chinese
phonetic symbols as a way of input, with the following explanations.Type
the Pinyin (Chinese phonetic symbols) for the words you want to
enter. For example, if you want to enter the word "Hanyu"
(meaning "the Chinese language"), type the
letters han first. If the word is not what you want, press icon
- you will see a number of characters
with the same sound appearing at the bottom of the screen. Choose
the one you want.
Next, type yu, the phonetic symbols for
the next character. Again several characters with the
same pronunciation will appear in the list. If there is no word
like 语press the icon -- , Select among them
the character you want, which is the second one, meaning "language".

| A faster
way of input |
A faster way of input is using the "Association" feature
of the Chinese software. This means that once you have selected
a character, other characters that can be associated with the
chosen character to form words will automatically appear at the
bottom of the screen for you to choose from. Therefore, you do
not have to enter the phonetic symbols for the second character.
Instead, you only have to press the number for that character
to select it. Let us again take 汉语(the Chinese language) as
an example. First, with cursor pointing to 拼, right click and
choose 属性设备and then 逐键提示type first letter, you will see
several phrases, choose the one you want.
